What Is Group Therapy?
Group therapy involves a small number of participants meeting together with one or more licensed clinicians. Groups combine structured discussion, skill-building, and peer support in a confidential environment. Group work can reduce isolation, normalize experiences, and help participants practice new skills in a supportive setting.
Who It Helps & Common Reasons to Seek Support
Group therapy may be a good fit when you want support alongside others who understand your experience.
It can be especially helpful for:
- Building coping skills in a shared learning environment
- Feeling less alone with a concern others also face
- Practicing communication and relationship skills
- Exploring identity, self-expression, and personal growth
- Supplementing individual therapy with peer connection

Groups typically include:

- Weekly or biweekly sessions with consistent group members

- Clear expectations for participation and confidentiality
- Coordination with individual therapists when participants are in concurrent care
