What types of therapy do you offer?

We provide therapy for individuals, couples, families, children, teens, and adults. Our team supports clients with concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, family conflict, life transitions, parenting stress, trauma, and emotional regulation. We also offer play therapy for children and telehealth appointments when appropriate.

Learn more on our Therapy Services page.

What should I expect when I request an appointment?

After you request an appointment, someone from our team will follow up to gather basic information, answer questions, and help determine the best therapist fit. From there, we will discuss availability, insurance or payment details, and next steps for scheduling a free consultation session with one of our therapists. Our goal is to make the process simple, supportive, and comfortable from the start.

See our full guide: What to Expect.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We accept many major insurance plans. Because coverage can vary by plan, we recommend contacting us directly so we can help confirm whether your insurance is accepted and explain any expected costs before your first appointment.

Details are on our Fees & Insurance page.

How do I know which therapist is the right fit?

Finding the right therapist is an important part of successful care. When you reach out, we will learn more about what you are looking for and help match you with a clinician whose experience, style, and availability fit your needs. You can also review our therapist profiles to learn more about each provider.

Do you offer therapy for children and teens?

Yes. We work with children, adolescents, and teens, as well as their families. Depending on the child’s age and needs, therapy may include play therapy, individual counseling, parent guidance, or family sessions. Our goal is to create a supportive environment where children and teens can feel safe, understood, and equipped with practical coping skills.

See Children and Teens for more.

Can therapy help if my family or relationship is struggling?

Yes. Therapy can help couples and families improve communication, rebuild trust, navigate conflict, and better understand one another. Whether you are dealing with recurring arguments, parenting challenges, separation or divorce, blended family stress, or disconnection, our therapists can help you work toward healthier patterns.

How do I schedule an appointment?

The easiest way to get started is to request an appointment online. Share your contact information, general availability, and a brief description of what you are looking for. You can also call us at 203.304.9977 or leave a voicemail — we will return your call during regular business hours.

Submitting a request does not guarantee immediate availability, but our team will follow up within 1–2 business days.

How long are therapy sessions?

Most individual therapy sessions are approximately 45–50 minutes. Couples, family, and group sessions may run longer depending on the format. Your therapist will confirm session length and frequency when you begin care.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. We offer secure telehealth for clients located in Connecticut, in addition to in-person appointments at our Newtown office. Before your first session, your therapist will confirm which format you will use and share any setup details you need — such as office directions, parking, or telehealth technology requirements.

For telehealth, you will need a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for advance notice if you need to cancel or reschedule so we can offer the time to another client. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to a fee according to our office policy. Your therapist or our administrative team can share the specific details that apply to your care.

See our Cancellation Policy for more information.

Is therapy confidential?

What you share in therapy is confidential, with a few important exceptions required by law and professional ethics. Your therapist will review confidentiality and its limits with you before or during your first session — including situations involving imminent risk of harm, suspected abuse or neglect, and certain court orders.

What forms do I need to complete before my first session?

After you and your therapist agree to move forward, you will receive onboarding information — including portal login and forms to complete before your first appointment. These typically include consent and practice policies. If you have questions about paperwork, our team is happy to help.

Where is your office located?

Newtown Family Therapy is located in Newtown, Connecticut. When your in-person appointment is scheduled, we will share address details, parking information, and anything else you need to arrive comfortably. Many clients also choose telehealth when that is a better fit for their schedule or location within Connecticut.
